Boschendal wine farm
If you love nature, history, good food and excellent wine… you can have the time of your life at Boschendal.
I love South Africa and you know that by now… the country is soooo rich of things to do…. there is so much diversity… Game safaris, wine tasting, shark diving, history research…
A trip down south will only enrich your life of memories and experiences…
When in the Cape region, a must visit place is the western Cape… Stellenbosch and Franschhoek… The areas is surrounded by wine farms, art galleries and cozy restaurants.
The beauty of the landscape is strikingly unique.
Boschendal is the place to go…
If you have 1/2 day… spend it at Boschendal
If you have a full day… spend it at Boschendal
If you have more days, sleep over and spend it a Boschendal…
The farm is a historical site. It goes back to the 16 hundreds when French religious refugees moved to South Africa in search for freedom. The farm changed hands throughout the centuries and it was at some point owned by the Rhodes family, who initiated the fruit plantation.
More recently the farm has been bought by a consortium of investors who decided to bring Boschendal to its best of splendor…. very successfully I must say…
The estate has been beautifully developed by its new manager who managed to combine a business and commercial view with social responsibility. The estate tends to employ local people, train them, develop their skills and offer opportunities. The products used in the deli and in the restaurant are also sourced locally if not produced on site.
The farm provides a kinder garden for the employees kids and accommodation for some of the workers.
All this is within the state which also comprises an extensive wine plantation, fruits plantation, mountain bike tracks, wine tasting premises, picnic areas, a gastronomic restaurant called The Werf, and a deli restaurant.
Do not forget to visit the Spa too…
The manor house is also open for visitation. Currently part of it is still under restoration, it is already possible to see the beauty of the original construction and frescoes.
In terms of accommodation, there are all sizes and levels of budget… if you wish to splurge, you must go to the Rhodes cottage with a butler service.
Brides to be… consider a wedding in Boschendal! The wedding pavilion is magnificent… surrounded by mountains and wine grapes… the sunset is spectacular…when we renew our vows, we may consider doing it there…
At Boschendal time flows like a warm breeze… You lose the sense of it… So pleasant and relaxing it is…
