For Carnivores only – Cape Town
Eating is so much fun… for me it also reflects the one’s individual personality!
My personality is not to have a local restaurant to call mine, but actually to move around and discover what is new! I never get recognised by staff because very rarely I go back to the same place… there is always somewhere new to go to… such an unfaithful customer I am… ?
Well, this does not mean I don’t love the places I go, the trouble is there is always a new place to discover.
As you know I go often to Cape Town… what a great city… what a great vibe… it is fun, it is laid back… It is casual chique!
I love beef and so do Capetonians… because of that they have these two amazing restaurants which deserve a visit… but it is recommended if you are meat lover…
Opened by the famous Luke Dale Roberts – The shortmarket club is great…
It is completely different of his other two Cape Town restaurants which the chef runs, The Test Kitchen and The Pot Luck, which I have already written about…
It is like the name suggests, like a club, small and intimate… A huge open kitchen, dimmed lights and loads of dark wood, gave me the impression of entering Chicago’s Al Capone club…
The meat cuts come to your encounter by chariot… Yes… One of these old ancient chariot is taken to your table in a very stylish way and a whole theatrical but accurate presentation opens your senses to chosen piece…
There are several sides to choose from but depending on the cut I suggest you don’t abuse your choices as it is quite likely that you will not finish your meal.
I went for the T Bone as I very rarely eat it… maybe because I prefer the beef a little bit more well done…
Well it was delicious but it is not my thing… I still prefer the cuts which can get a bit more cooked…
On another trip I visited Carne. There are two restaurants in Cape Town and we went to the Keerom Street…
The restaurant is divided in two floors and although it is a meat house, it has an Italian bias…
As a starter I had a ravioli and loved it so much that I nearly asked for a second portion…
As main… Guess what???? Beef…
A huge steak… But this time I chose the rib eye…
The waiter brings to the table the different cuts and you can chose according to the size and type…
As a side I chose the sweet potatoes chips!!! Super yummy!
The two restaurants have a lot in common but are also very different! Any will be a great choice but don’t forget to reserve, as Capetonians love to eat out and these places are popular and get full quickly.
