3 Years – 01 December 2018

Dec 1, 2018 by Valentina Voos No Comments
I am sitting at my kitchen table…. thinking how I could express myself in a concise way but also in the right way to demonstrate all the feelings I have for the 3 years anniversary of this blog. First, it seems that it all started yesterday… but surprisingly, it seems that I have been on this journey all my life… I confess it is not always easy… especially when it comes to time management… You know by now that I work 5 days a week, I have 2 children and a husband that need me (and support me too), I… Read more

Velvet embroidered loafers

Nov 22, 2018 by Valentina Voos No Comments
Velvet, for centuries, has been a synonym of aristocracy and nobility. The history of it goes back to 1347 when the Republic of Venice’s Guild of Velvet Weavers was created. Velvet has been so important to the Italians and more specifically to the Venetian community, that a family owned business created in 1499 still exists – Bevilacqua family atelier opened in 1499 and has passed from generation to generation the intricate and sophisticated technique. Popes, Kings, and Czars have worn the velvet produced by the Bevilacqua family. I love the fabric and maybe it should be subject to a specific… Read more

Belief – Discipline – Patience

Nov 19, 2018 by Valentina Voos No Comments
Yesterday I was watching Mamma Mia when flying to the Caribbean when I remembered an interview that Meryl Streep had given to a newspaper… She had said loads of right things but the one that really touched me was when she revelled that she was rejected for main actress position at the King Kong film because she was told to be too UGLY… Then… This lady… Did not give up… Instead… Throughout her career, she won 3 Oscars… Obviously she did not win 3 times because she was rejected… She won because she was great… Simply that… It seems obvious… Read more

What started as a mission to find one missing E.T. What started as a mission to find one missing E.T. poster turned into something I could never have planned…. Not in my best dreams…

No valid ticket. Ten minutes before closing. One very kind Universal team member who decided to help me anyway. He let me enter the park with me to get the souvenir…

We searched. We didn’t find the poster. We stopped for a few minutes to watch the fireworks. And just when I thought the story was over, he surprised me with a Hello Kitty T-shirt as a gift.

The funny part? Sanrio’s philosophy has always been “Small Gift, Big Smile.”
I only discovered that afterwards.

Sometimes the best souvenirs are not the ones you were looking for — but the stories you never expected to bring home.

And yes… I am still looking for that E.T. poster.

Mission accomplished. We came to the US for one v Mission accomplished.

We came to the US for one very big reason: to leave my daughter here for high school. And now, somehow, it’s almost time for us to go home without her. My heart is racing fast in anticipation…

That sentence feels much bigger when I write it than it did when we were planning all of this.

So before the goodbyes, we did what we do best: we made memories. We laughed, we walked far too many steps, we took ridiculous amounts of photos… and yes, we went to Disney.

I know there are people who might look at a grown woman wearing Minnie ears and think, Really? Disney?

And my answer is: absolutely.

Because one of the privileges of getting older is realizing that you don’t have to defend the things that make you happy.

People will judge what you wear, what you love, how you parent, where you travel, how loudly you laugh, how seriously you take life — or how unseriously.
They’re going to judge anyway.

So you might as well give them something joyful to judge.

Disney makes me ridiculously happy. Being silly with the people I love makes me happy. Creating memories before a difficult goodbye makes me happy.

And I’ve decided happiness doesn’t need to look sophisticated to be meaningful.

Soon, we’ll leave one of our greatest treasures here to build her own adventure. I know that’s exactly what we’re supposed to do as parents: give them roots, then somehow find the courage to let them use their wings.

My heart is full, proud, excited… and already a little broken.

But what a beautiful reason to have a broken heart. Right?

Here’s to new chapters, brave daughters, emotional mothers, Mickey ears, animal print trousers and never becoming too grown-up for the things that make your soul light up.

CHIC OR SHABBY — WHO DECIDES? We like to think CHIC OR SHABBY — WHO DECIDES?

We like to think taste is personal.

But is it?

Change the person wearing something, the room they are wearing it in, the brand attached to it — and suddenly our perception changes too.

The interesting part isn’t that fashion changes.
It’s how quickly we change with it.

So I’m curious: what is something you once considered completely not chic… and now happily wear?

Charleston, you’re a whole mood. 🌴💗 A lit Charleston, you’re a whole mood. 🌴💗

A little Southern charm, horse-drawn carriages, hidden gardens, pink finds I definitely didn’t need but absolutely wanted… and me happily wandering through it all. Never imagined you were as nice as you are…

There’s something about this town — elegant, colourful, a little nostalgic and completely full of history that can be not so pretty…
Add Michael Brown playing in the background and it feels like the perfect soundtrack to a Charleston afternoon.

Pink dress, palm trees, pretty streets and a little shopping along the way… Charleston, I think you suit me… and think now that I have met you I will need to be back!

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE THINK THEY’RE TOO GOOD FOR DI WHY DO SOME PEOPLE THINK THEY’RE TOO GOOD FOR DISNEY?

Maybe adulthood has made us a little too concerned with looking sophisticated.

We learn to be serious, efficient, rational—and somewhere along the way, we can become embarrassed by the things that simply make us happy.

I’m not.

Give me the ears, the pins, the ice cream, the rides and the screaming. 😂
For me, Disney is less about pretending the real world doesn’t exist and more about giving myself permission to leave it outside for a few hours.
And perhaps growing older shouldn’t mean becoming harder to impress.
What is something you absolutely refuse to “outgrow”?

A new chapter begins today. Until now, I have sha A new chapter begins today.

Until now, I have shared many beautiful places, experiences and encounters. From now on, I also want to share the stories, opinions and curiosities behind them.

Every Friday, a new conversation—from luxury and travel to fashion, relationships, business, watches, beauty, cars and, naturally, my three C’s: Coca-Cola Zero, coffee and chocolate.

Next Friday, from Disney: why adults still need magic.

Welcome to my world—this time, with a little more of what I really think.
