At the end of the Bahnhofstrasse is situated one of the most beautiful lakes of Switerland… and also the hotel Baur au Lac…
Compared to Geneva, Zurich does not have as many 5 star hotels concentrated in front of the lake which makes the Baur au Lac an even more special place.
Invited to lunch at the Restaurant Pavillon, I knew that it was going to be a great meal, as the restaurant has just been granted its 2nd Michelin star.
The place in itself is a jewel! An architectural glass rotunda overlooking the park and the river, all the tables are situated next to the glass windows to allow privacy and the enjoyment to the view.
The chef Laurent Eperon has developed a very refined lunch menu, consisted of two or three dishes, an a desert cheese option, which was mine.
It is quite extraordinary that Michelin stared restaurants are now opting to offer a lunch menu. To develop sophisticated plates takes time and a huge kitchen effort which normally is difficult to achieve within the lunch time restriction. However, more and more I note that restaurant make it without compromising on the refinement and presentation.
I started my lunch with the amuse bouche which was beetroot leaves in its on juice.
Then I had a wonderful duck fillet with green peas puree.
As desert, as mentioned, I opted for cheese…. What a wonderful option… the cheese charriot is worth looking at… I am far from being a cheese connoisseur and therefore I always amaze myself with the different types and tastes… this time I dared to try some goat cheese… normally I dont go for them… and it was delicious.
The Pavillon is a place to impress and be impressed. It is a discreet, sophisticated and refined restaurant. Perfect for a peaceful meal.
