Holidays – Rio 2018 Carnival
Hi everybody…
I am back… I am so sorry for having disappeared for a couple of weeks, but I needed to take a break…
I needed to spend time with my family, go to the beach and do nothing…
As it seems, do nothing for me was great… I had loads for quality time with my family… and had the chance to enjoy the Rio Carnival.
Actually the Carnival I enjoyed was not the cliché one… the one that you go and join the school of Samba…
The Carnival I enjoyed as way less adult… as the balls I attended were for… kids…
It was conscious option we took… we did not want to go out and spend the night out… we wanted to enjoy the day… as much as we could and have loooong nights of sleep.
So… loads of sun, beach, coconut water, swimming pool, caipirinhas and bbq… Not bad… Agree?
First, we started the trip with a visit to the Sugar Loaf… Thanks to a friend who kindly gave me the tickets, we managed to go up and enjoy our first kids ball…
As you could imagine the view is breath-taking… the more you look the more you get convinced that Rio is the most beautiful city in the world… regardless of anything anyone can say.
Once up there a great tip is to sit in the beach club… it is literally the highest beach club you can get… over and above the Copacabana beach… blue sky, 40 degrees… all I could think about was beer…
Beer…
and more beer…. I was so glad that UBER exists….
As the holidays was just starting and I did not wish to get wasted on my first day… I ate some of the local tapas… the shrimp pastel is delicious… super recommended…. I did not eat the burger, but my husband did and HE LOVED IT.
This was basically my first day….
Next couple of days were quiet, at the swimming pool or going to the local beach, just a few kilometres from where I was staying…
Once in a Rio beach, something you must do is to drink Mate Leao and eat biscoito Globo… the experience will make you a true Carioca person and you will never forget…
This time we also had the chance to try a couple of nice restaurants. I will write a separate post on Garume, which is a new sushi place I discovered… LOVED IT…
On Tuesday afternoon I took my kids to a proper Carnival ball in a Concert Hall… it was 5 hours of partying hard… hundreds of kids running around, in various costumes… a whole world of fairies, superheroes, Disney characters and overwhelmed parents…. :-p
I also had the chance to spend my valentine’s day in Rio… it was a complete blast… we went to the Sofitel Hotel at Ipanema beach to the bar at the penthouse… what a view… what a place… unforgettable night…
It was super fun… but it will take me 365 days to recover!
The rest of the Carnival week passed fast… it always pass fast when we have fun…
xx Valentina
