The Chedi Andermatt

Valentina here has left the kitchen for good… and in super style this time!

Invited to go and discover the renewed Chedi hotel in Andermatt…. I felt I stopped sleeping a few days before the date, so excited I was to come and visit this iconic place…

Famous for being one of the most exquisite hotels in Europe, the Chedi in Andermatt is much more than that… It is majestic… It is chique… it is sumptuous! As I write this article I receive an email with the most exciting news – the hotel has won for the third time consecutively 5 stars at the Forbes travel guide but first rang distinction! Congrats.

Back to my post…. First the idea in itself,  to build a luxurious hotel in a typical Swiss village which would respect the local heritage but also bring a hint and feel of Asia to the Swiss Alps….. definitely a project of a visionary but not without controversy….

It took nearly 5 years to build and in December 2013, “The Chedi” opened its door to mesmerize the world.

Looking from the outside no one has the real idea of how the place looks like from the inside… and that is the beauty of it… the whole concept a priori would use local materials and resources, have the Alpine charm but the Asian feel and volume…. a grandiosity that reminds us of the Thai architecture style.

Super high ceilings, dark wood, fireplaces… a curiosity… every room in the Chedi has its own fire place and there are fire places all over the property, which makes it have more fire places in the whole complex than the 123 sleeping rooms and suites…. Cozy heim!

Speaking of cozy, the whole hotel is an invitation to stay in…. Look at the size of this bed….

… and the BATHTUB???? Don’t pinch me… I don’t want to wake up!!!

I know we go to the mountains to enjoy fresh air, to do winter sports… but I am sorry not when you go to the Chedi…

The rooms are magnificent… spacious, comfortable and totally gorgeous…. All of them have a stunning balcony with a spectacular view of the mountains and its own fireplace (as I mentioned each room has a fireplace which is strategically placed to be used in the room both inside and at the balcony). Pure Glamour!

Not convinced yet? The common areas are just oasis of peaceful tranquility… where afternoon tea and snacks are served throughout the day….

There are two major restaurants ( a Japanese one and a general restaurant), two bars and in winter, an outside chalet where one can enjoy the most delicious Swiss fondue. Not to mention a second Japanese restaurant, at the top of the mountain which has recently been awarded its first Michelin star like the sister restaurant inside the main building.

The Restaurant concept is quite clever too… separated in 4 different stations, there are 2 different cuisines, European and Asian which are open to be admired and inspire the guests on their menu choices.

What about the spa? Award winning one… the signature treatments are a total indulgence to the body and soul. I tried the Alpine massage which was just the right choice to me as it combined strong and deep pressure with light movements. I promise 60 min was not enough… if they were not fully booked… I could have done another hour… so think well when booking…. you may regret if you book a shorter time massage.

OMG, something not to forget… the swimming pool is 35 meters long… yes you read it right… It is just the most incredible place… as I have never seen anywhere in the world….

The whole experience at the Chedi was fantastic… invited to the press trip, the hotel went every extra mile to welcome us… but this was not because we were invited… I looked around and observed how the general guests were being served and treated… and needless to say, I am very pleased with what I saw… especially when we are so regulated with COVID-19 rules which can be overwhelming to comply…

At the Chedi, there is no lack of space to circulate and maintain social distance…the generosity of space is something which for me became very important…. the time I was there I went out a couple of times… but all I could think about was to stay in…

I invite you to travel through the photos and visit this amazing place when you are next going to the mountains….
