I don’t normally write about politics… I think there are some subjects which are so personal that once discussed, it can create more issues than resolve them…
Politics is one of them… People often get so passionate that stop listening and try to prove the other wrong…
BUT… this subject is worth writing about… especially because it has a lot to do with this blog.
I SUPPORT the ban on the destruction of luxurious goods…
Can you believe that houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Dior and others justify destroying millions of Euros of goods as an effort o maintain brand exclusivity?
I find it outrageous!
The waste is just unjustifiable! The planet is suffering badly with the mass production of goods driven by the consomption society that we live on… and MILLIONS of EUROS of tissue, leather and sweat go to the fire…
Don’t take me wrong… I am not a fanatic that became politically correct and is now advocating for saving the planet in detriment of economical growth…
Urg… here I am going even deeper on politics… I better stop here…but…
Actually all I am doing is bringing to light a topic which I find fair… so fair that Burberry publicly accepted the practice and banned it from action end of last year…
Better later than ever, right?
However, other groups, such as LVMH, continue the practice and are lobbying for the law not to come to force, as anticipated in 2023. As France is the Meca of fashion… the parliament has passed the law but gave time to the industry to adapt and adjust… After 2023, all non sold items are to be return to the manufacturers for recycling and re-use… with the protection of the intellectuel property so that it does not fall in the hands of copy makers.
Seriously, copy makers move millions of dollars every year… They don’t need to buy unsold items to copy… they buy the items at the boutiques at day one of release and copy them in a heart beat… so the argument is false…
I am not an expert in the luxurious items retail but basics economics teach that less availability is inversable proportionnel to high demand… so… the solution might be to produce less… which links to one of my latest articles:
Food for thought??
Bye for now!
