Afternoon Tea 4 – VICTORIA-JUNGFRAU Grand Hotel & Spa in Interlaken

Interlaken is a worldwide famous town…

It is so beautiful and so perfect that it looks like a movie stage… nothing seems to be out of place. The sky is blue, the mountains full of snow, the grass green and local people dress in their typical clothes.

Well placed between two lakes – Lake Brienz and lake Thun… with a panoramic view of the Jungfrau glacier… the city makes me pinch myself, every time I visit, to believe that I am not dreaming…

The scenery is incredibly spectacular which takes away the breath of millions of tourists every year. Statistics recently showed that it is the most photographed Swiss city.
In the heart of it, head facing the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains, it is situated the Victoria Jungfrau Hotel. Once it was actually two hotels, separated by a road in the middle… The merger happened in 1899 and since then, the hotel has been a place to see and be seen… Intellectuals, celebrities and artists visit the hotel every year to experience the swiss hospitality but also to enjoy the premises of one of the most glamourous hotels in the world.

Strolling through the hotel’s corridors and rooms, one can feel the glamour of the Belle Epoque from its chandeliers, mirrors and staircases. Very recently the hotel has been completely renovated to continue to offer the best of the best to its guests. The SPA is also an attraction… with a huge and amazing swimming pool.

The afternoon tea is served in the library of what used to be the Victoria Hotel. A large classic belle époque room decorated with sofas and tables that makes one feel in the 1920’s, the tea is not only a delight but a time travel.

Contrarily to other afternoon teas, this one is not served at the table in various tier plates. There is actually a large buffet of sweet and savoury delicacies that is an invitation to gluttony. A separate table caters for the fresh fruit, ice creams and a chocolate fountain.

The mini sandwiches were small art pieces… perfectly prepared to please the eye but also the mouth…. I decided not to resist any of them… The Parma Ham and cheese one was sooooo good that I ended up having a few…

The scones were also divine… and baked as it should be… crunchy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside… With cream and Jam… uhhhh, mouth-watering….

I used to have a lot more of a sweet tooth than today… this does not mean that I dont appreciate sweets, cakes or chocolates… I still do, but now I get a little more selective with my options… Well, I must confess it was very hard to choose this time… wherever I looked I felt the urge to try…

But… I did not restrain myself with the scones and mini sandwiches… so when it came to the sweet part, I hardly could fit anything… nevertheless I could not leave without trying the marble cakes…

Ohhh… they were just… just… just… AMAZING… it is my husband’s favorite cake and due to that I end up making it myself or buying it for him… so I have previously tried several ones… but none like this one… I nearly asked the chef for the recipe… maybe I should have done… because now my husband and kids will have trouble eating the one I bake for them…

If you are a tourist in Switzerland… Interlaken will be in your travel list… if you are a swiss local… Interlaken is just around the corner…

For a total glamorous afternoon, order your glass of champagne…

As one chooses to sin, we might as well do it properly…
