A autumn day in Lucerne
My husband and I are called gypsies by some of our friends as we put the kids in the car and here we go to an unknown destination…
This weekend the chosen one was the gorgeous city of Lucerne…
What a glorious day… Blue sky… Mild temperature and amazing views…
Saturday, we woke up not so early, had some breakfast and run to the old town to explore what is one of the most beautiful cities in the Alps…
Lucerne is situated in the central part of Switzerland… The city is divided by the lake and the old town is very precious… Typically Swiss German architecture… The views are breathtaking.
Lucerne is known by its wooden Chappel bridge… gorgeous and leading to the old town. A few years ago the bridge suffered a huge fire which destroyed a great part of it. It was beautifully restored to become even more stunning than before…
Also another landmark to visit is the Lion Monument… Representing the Swiss soldiers who died in defense of a French king in the 19th century; the values the monument represents are still very much part of the Swiss culture, such as loyalty and tradition.
Nearby at Löwenplatz, you can have lunch in a very traditional Swiss restaurant… the name is even very cliche… The Old Swiss House Restaurant… It was also established in the 19th century and it serves the traditional Swiss German cuisine… The main and most famous dish, the Wienerschnitzel is delicious and veryyyyy caloric…. Celebrities from all over the world have dined in this restaurant… A hall of fame can be seen at the staircase…
In terms of accommodation, we chose the Hotel Montana. Situated on the hill just above the lake, it is a wonderful place to observe Mont Pilatus and Lake Lucerne. The Sunday brunch is delicious and the hotel is decorated with the best of art deco….
A stroll around the old town is very pleasant, especially due to all coffee shops around. If you have time and wish to have an absolute Swiss splurge, in Lucerne you have the opportunity to craft your own Swiss watch…
Yes, it is right… at les Ambassadeurs, you can have the unique experience to craft your own watch…. and take it home with you… book way in advance as they are really fully booked!

For some culture… Lucerne has one of the most amazing music and opera halls of Switzerland… The KKL center… check the program as you will be surprised with the quality of the performers that play at the KKL. The summer music festival gathers public from all over Europe…

Even a visit to the supermarket can be interesting… At Coop ( a Swiss chain ) – discovered a brand of Lucerne’s local products…
The weekend is always short with so much to do… I have a feeling I could have done and visited a lot more… I still need to come back to try the Lozäner Chügelipastete… a very local dish… well, it will be next time…
Hope you enjoyed the tips… And if you try any of those, let me know.
