Beau Rivage Hotel – Geneva – A history book in form of a hotel
How would you feel if you knew that you are sleeping under the same roof where global treaties were agreed and signed?
…Where if the walls could speak, we would hear deliberations and politics all over the place….
…Where Empress Elisabeth of Austria (“Sisi”) used to spend her summer vacations, and unfortunately in 1898 got stabbed and died on its footsteps?
This place exists and it is now 152 years old… Impressive, don’t you think? Especially in a world where we are constantly looking forward and not back… It is wonderful to make a pause and learn from the past…
The Beau Rivage is the oldest and the only family owned hotel in Geneva… Open in 1865, the hotel preserves its heritage, its history and it combines tradition with luxe.
As you know I travel quite a lot and I really loved to discover this beautiful and unique place…
As you enter you feel like entering a palace… yes, a mini palace… the water fountain at the main hall is an invitation for a flashback… For a moment, I closed my eyes and could visualize 19th century ladies circulating the hall with parasols… Gentlemen in tuxedos and top hats flirting with the glamour that no longer exists.
However the hotel is not only that…
It is modern, with all the facilities that a 5 star hotel require and it is luxurious…. Gastronomic restaurants, a trendy terrace bar with an spectacular view is also part of it.
OH! Super luxurious….
The 5th Floor has been recently renovated into nine 2 floors suites…. The attention to details is incredible! The furniture, the tapestry, the marbles are just too beautiful to describe… Every bathroom has its own private Spa… Hammam with a Jacuzzi at your own disposal…
The hotel has obviously respected the historical context of the building but some of the suites have a different style, such as Japanese or African themes.
I could not stop taking pictures because it is not always that we have the opportunity to visit such a place… I am definitely going back…
Also, there are in the 2nd floor of the building, some suites which maintain the decoration and style of the inauguration… wall paintings, cherubins, a lot of rococo…
Once you are inside the Beau Rivage, you do not need to go sightseeing… you are on the sight… Look around, enjoy and don’t forget to look outside the window… as Lake Geneva is like a painting on the wall…
