Aspen & Snowmass

As promised I am back with my impressions on Aspen & Snowmass..

There was a great level of expectation to come here as this is probably one of the most famous ski resorts in the whole world…

So far I am loving it, and I recomend ski lovers to come and try the slopes… All is very organized and there are facilities for kids and adults to enjoy their day out but also things to do in…

Starting by Snowmass, the small village is higher than Aspen and it is more of a family resort… It has various types of accomodation… And our choice was to rent an appartment which for us made all sorts of sense as with kids you want to have the chance to cook and have space…

There are plenty of condos in Snowmass and they all have great facilities… The best is that the slopes pass just behind the front door, which allows you to ski back home…

Kids are quite fortunate…they have a lot of facilities to enjoy… The ski school is expensive… More than the double of what you would pay in Europe… But kids have a lot of fun… The tree house  also has a garderie for smaller kids allowing parents free time to enjoy themselves…

Buses run all day long between Aspen and Snowmass and they are free…

Aspen is more of a town… It has loads of different accomodations, exquisite and star restaurants… Loads of expensive and bling bling shops…

The valley here is quite large and there is this fresh sensation of space… The mountains finish their slopes in the city so you can sit down, sip a coffee and watch skiers go up and down the slopes…

As the american cities are “younger” than the european counterparties, the constructions seem also to be larger, with more light and glass… The tipical alps chalet cannot be found around here…

Aspen is a very very bling bling place…  The super branded boutiques are everywhere… Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burburry, Dolce & Gabanna, Dior, Valentino and etc…

Strolling around you struggle to see local boutiques… I happened to find one that exists for 16 years… The manager of the shop was telling me that all the big brands are kicking out the local businessess.. The rent is high and everything is overpriced… However this is Aspen and the presence here raises the profile..

If you look for a local boutique with local Colorado fashion stuff and some nice boots… Look for the Sugar boutique. I bought a very nice fringed poncho there….

If you are a foodie like me you have plenty to choose from… Fast food does not exist… Yes, it is right…. No McDonalds in this town… Delicious lunches at Meet & cheese… Try the chicken plate with roast potatos… Or the salads at the White House Tavern….

In the slope, try cloud 9, for an authentic mountain meal! The view is splendid and the ski amazing!!!

For dinner, we went to the Ajax Tavern… OMG… The truffled fries…. What was that??? They are just horribly good! The schnitzel is also great… And finish it up with the apple struddel…. The Ajax Tavern is also the after ski place of Aspen… Flutes of Veuve Clicquot go down like water every afternoon…. It is just at the base of the Little Nell Hotel.

Sushi Sushi, please more sushi… This is how you feel about the Matsushisa… Chef is ex Nobu…. Wonderful and unmissable…

There are loads of things to do… As the town is not very big, just park the car and walk around… Each corner has a nice art gallery or a boutique to see… Finish your day with some champagne and indulge  yourself with some cookies…Aspen surprised me and I hope this post motivates you to check it out!!!
